Churston Builders – The Torbay and South Hams Builder. Bungalow Conversion and New England Restyle in Cadewell, Torquay.
This extensive remodelling was carried out in early 2021 and included a second-storey dormer extension doubling the internal space. Externally the property was re-roofed and finished with a mix of clad and rendered walls to give that essential New England look.
Work commenced with alterations to the front of the property to accommodate the new structure. This included blockwork walls and beam and block flooring. To avoid the need for a tin hat scaffold the gable end wall forming the second storey over the garage was built first. This allowed the new roofline steels to be installed over the existing roof. As each section of the new roof was completed the old roof sections were removed from the inside. Once the roof structure was watertight the floor joists and first fix trades were completed.
The external walls were insulated with Rockwool along with the floor spaces and all walls then further insulated with specified thicknesses of rigid insulation to insure a high degree of thermal efficiency. First fix carpentry, boarding and plastering were completed followed by second fix trades which completed the interior ready for decoration.
Externally the property benefitted from a full suite of new casement style windows and doors to match in style with the wall cladding and coloured render walls.
The conversion works have elevated this property from a run-of-the-mill 1950s bungalow to a property styled for the 21st century New England look!
