Churston Builders, the Torbay Builder, built this two-storey extension in Preston during the summer of 2014 to accommodate the owners growing family.
The new footings for the two-storey extension required structures at the side of the property were cleared. The sub-surface was fully levelled as the space below the ground floor was to be utilised for storage.
The rising structure was constructed with a double-leaf of blocks tied together and sandwiching 2 inch rigid insulation. As the structure rose higher, sister company Churston Scaffolding provided safe working platforms for access.
Once at full height, the existing roof was partially dismantled to patch in the new roof structure. The roof was quickly followed by windows and doors to create a weatherproof and secure structure. The internal work could then be completed.
Rendering that originally formed the outside walls was removed and the exposed brickwork treated to form a character feature in the extended ground floor kitchen. Churston Builders fitted a new kitchen, flooring and wall tiles.
The new exterior walls were rendered and feathered in to match the existing walls.
