Churston Builders – The Torbay Builder transformed this Paignton property with a single storey extension.
The extension was planned to make best use of an under-utilised area at the side of the property. It would provide additional ground floor accommodation, a new entrance and ground floor shower room.
The exterior wall was retained to be re-rendered at the end of the project and excavations began. A large amount of soil was removed to reach the required depth for the concrete foundations. Once poured the blockwork footing were built with the required air circulation built in. The excavations were then backfilled and levelled.
The double-leaf block wall, with its rigid insulation, was then built to the final building height. Floor and ceiling joists were fitted. The roof tiles and velux windows along with bi-fold doors and the new from door unit were fitted to make the building weatherproof and secure so work could begin on the internal modifications. This included removal of the original external door and windows.
The new internal space featured a lounge area with glazed doors exiting to a fenced and levelled garden finished with low-maintenance artificial grass. A ground floor shower-room and new entrance hall completed the interior work.
Outside the property a contemporary style front door is reached via a smart slate tiled area that can be accessed by the original entrance or via the new side entrance. The exterior wall was re-rendered and decorated to contrast with the new building.
